Job Description

  • Promote independence, development and confidence in others
  • On the job training and career development
  • Outreach support - dual disabilities & challenging behaviours

Provide daily support to individuals living with mental disorders (mental illness coupled with other forms of disability). Creative and supportive environment. Variety of shifts.

About You
Are you are motivated to improve the lives of those living with mental disorders? Can you resolve conflict & deal with practical issues to support others and achieve outcomes? Additional attributes we are looking for include:

  • Flexibility, patience, initiative and emotional resilience
  • Effective listening skills & an adaptable communication style
  • Capability to advocate for others and build support networks
  • The ability to contribute positively within a team
  • Prior experience supporting people with mental disorders where challenging behaviours are common, either in a work or personal context
  • Qualifications / experience in Mental Health, Individual Support, Disability, Social Work or other relevant qualification (or be actively studying)

It is a requirement of this position to acquire and maintain a positive Working With Children’s Check, a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and a current & valid driver’s license.
 

About the Role
We assist & support individuals (consumers) who have a mental disorder such as an Acquired Brain Injury and/or disability. Our aim is to develop skills and abilities to handle day to day tasks. Our goal is to enable rather than do, to promote independence, development and confidence of the individuals. Our success will enable them to have the voice and choice to thrive in their local communities. The role entails:

  • Meet the individual needs according to an established behavioral support plan
  • Developing professional relationships with individuals, their families and others in the community 
  • Providing accurate and timely case notes so that others can provide a consistent experience for the individual
